The four-star 2016 shooting guard made a trip to Charlottesville over the weekend, and says he had a great visit with the coaching staff.
“I had a chance to talk to (UVa head) coach (Tony) Bennett and coach (Jason) Williford, hanged out with the team, watched some videos and then went to the football game.”
During the football game, Jones was able to see former Wahoos and current NBA players Akil Mitchell and Joe Harris honored at Scott Stadium along with the other members of the UVa basketball team. Although this impressed the Huntington Prep guard, he says this visit was really about understanding where things stand between him and Virginia.
“Just talking about how I fit in with the system and how I would be good with the system,” he said. “The (UVa) coaching staff believes in my game, and they believe I can be a special player.”
His trip to see the Cavaliers was a successful one, and Jones has pointed to the Cavaliers as a “favorite,” however, he says he is not quite ready to pull the trigger.
Jones is looking forward to his first visit to Columbus, Ohio.
“It is my first time there, so it will be exciting to see the campus and meeting the coaching staff and everything.”
When he is ready to make his decision, Jones knows exactly what he is looking for.
“Just somewhere that has a family orientated environment, somewhere where the coaches work with you, and make the players better and really develop your game. Somewhere I can play right away or have a chance to play right away…Somewhere we could win a championship.”
