Cornerback Calvin Otis is sitting on several offers from Division I-AA schools but is still hearing from schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Otis has received offers from Northeastern, Elon, Rhode Island and New Hampshire. Rather than making an early decision that would virtually assure him of a lot of playing time throughout college, Otis has decided to take his time in the hopes of receiving more offers. “Right now I’m still hearing a lot from Virginia, Boston College and Duke,” said Otis. “I just got a text message from Coach Garrett at UVa the other day, and that’s a pretty regular thing. I’m in touch with these coaches a lot and I’m definitely interested in those three schools. “UVa is a school I have a lot of interest in. Aside from being close to home, their academics are just great. It would mean a lot if they were to offer me down the road. I plan on waiting to see what they want to do.” Each of those schools is recruiting Otis as a wide receiver. He has camped at UVa, Boston College and Duke this summer, and said his 40-yard dash time at each place was anywhere between 4.56 and 4.64-seconds. “I feel like my speed is improving,” he said. “I’m good after I make the catch anyways, but it will help to add a little bit of quickness. Catching the ball is what I’m best at. I feel like I’ll make the catch just about every time if I have a good shot at it.” Otis is also hearing from Richmond and James Madison. He plans on waiting until after his senior season to make his decision. |
