Defensive back C.J. Fleming plans on making his decision before the school year begins. That means the schools recruiting him are pushing extra hard for his services.
The 5-11, 172-pound defensive back from Highland Springs has offers from Virginia, NC State, Tennessee, Georgia, West Virginia, North Carolina and several others. What does he think of the Cavaliers?
“The two things that stick out most when it comes to UVa are location and the coaching staff. It would be nice to be so close to home that my family could see me play most of the time. That would make things pretty easy as far as that goes. I also have a good relationship with Coach Groh. I think he’s a solid guy. Of course, I’ve seen the school, and it’s a great place.”
While he thinks a lot of Virginia, don’t get the impression that he is tipping his hand. He still has a lot to see. Fleming will visit West Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia (in that order) next week beginning Monday. His decision might not be long after that.
“I’ve already visited a few schools and I want to see all that I can before I make my decision. I plan on announcing something before the season, so I have to do a lot now.”
Each school that has offered Fleming is recruiting him as a cornerback. The athletic defensive back has the unique ability to play full speed yet maintain very good body control. He still has a wealth of untapped potential.
“I really couldn’t begin to tell you where I’m going to end up,” he said. “There are a lot of great schools and great football programs recruiting me right now.”
