Wide receiver Kris Burd attended two UVa games last year and both times he felt right at home. Now that he has what appears to be an early short list the Cavs are in a good position. “I was at the games against Florida State and Virginia Tech,” said Burd. “The stadium was packed for both games and the crowd was great. It was just a thrill to be there. I just took everything in and imagined what it would be like to run out on the field in that uniform.” The 6-1, 180-pound athlete from Matoaca High School in Ettrick, VA runs the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds. Last year he caught 44 passes for 865 yards and six touchdowns. “I play safety and wide receiver and I’m hearing different things about where I’ll play when I’m in college. Virginia wants me as a receiver but some other schools think I would play safety. Some have told me that they would just wait and see when I got up there.” Recently Burd has heard a lot from the likes of UVa, Tennessee, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia Tech. Does he have a favorite? “I wouldn’t say I have one favorite right now, but I’m probably leaning toward UVa, Virginia Tech and Maryland at this point. Virginia and Maryland have offered me. I don’t have anything on paper yet from Tech, but they’ve verbally offered me.” So it appears as though three of the schools closest to Burd might have the upper hand at this point. “I’m going to camp at Maryland sometime in July, but I’m not sure of the exact date right now,” he said. “I’m going to a UVa 7-on-7 camp too, and I plan on staying overnight for an individual camp they’re doing. So I’ll be spending plenty of time there this summer.” Burd would be a big pick-up for the Cavs, as he is one of the most talented in-state skill position players available. He has a great first step and is tremendous in jump-ball situations. |
