A dynasty. One definition for the word is "a group that maintains power for several generations." West Side High School in Gary, Indiana has maintained a short dynasty in the Northwestern conference for quite a while now. Coach John Boyd's team just won their sixth conference title in a row. Boyd's star player, 2006 UVa signee Jamil Tucker has been a huge part of the Cougars' success over the past few years.
In their battle for the conference championship against Lew Wallace HS the dynasty that West Side faced a big challenge. With a team featuring Tucker and a starting lineup that averages 6'5 in height on paper many didn't think a challenging game was possible. Jamil and fellow starter Mike Patton were hobbled by injuries and coach Boyd decided to sit his two starters out in hopes of having them ready for the sectional playoffs.
The Cougar bench responded and held off Lew Wallace High 72-66. Tucker's replacement Wesley Danzy came up big with 16 points in the victory.
Jamil has a slight foot sprain and is expected to be ready to go once sectionals begin. The Cougars have been extremely busy in the past week as they've played 5 games in 7 days time which really shows the strength and endurance of Boyd's team. With sectionals just around the horizon HooNation.com will continue to follow Tucker and the Cougars season.
