After upsetting the Arizona Wildcats last season the Virginia Cavaliers were looking to do it again this year. Looks like the Wildcats had been thinking about this game for a long time as they blowed the Hoos out 81-51. | |||

Sunday night's game against the #8 Arizona Wildcats was a tale of two halves. Unfortunately for the Virginia Cavaliers they were dealt a knockout punch to start the second half via a 18-1 run. After being down 31-28 at the half Dave Leitao's squad went ice cold from the field and the Wildcats used the run to bust the game wide open. In fact the Wildcats outscared Virginia 50-23 in the second half. The Wildcats' Chris Rodgers and Hassan Adams provided the majority of the offense for Lute Olson's team with 23 and 14 points respectively. The Hoos' defense had no answer for the Wildcats as they shot 51% from the field. On a dreadful night from a team standpoint point guard Sean Singletary once again had a highlight night against the Arizona Wildcats for a second consecutive season. Singletary went for 24 points and 5 rebounds and was a constant all night for his team. The only other Hoo in double figures was sophomore swingman Adrian Joseph who had 12 points. Junior shooting guard J.R. Reynolds had one of his worst performances as a Hoo going 3-14 from the field including 0-5 from three point range after shooting lights out in the Cavaliers' first two games. The area of concern for Dave Leitao's team coming into this season is easily their depth and tonight was an example of what can occur if the team isn't able to execute their offense. While they aren't expected to score a great deal of points the Hoos are going to have to find a way to generate some offense from others beside Singletary and Reynolds as teams are aware that the UVa co-captains provide most of the scoring power. The loss at the McKale Center leaves the Hoos with a record of 2-1 on the season with their next matchup coming Wednesday in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge against Northwestern. Expect the staff and team to review the tape of tonight's game to try and make the necessary adjustments to prepare for their game against Northwestern. Sean Singletary is a unanimous decision for HooNation.com's player of the game. Game Notes |
