The early decision for Virginia Beach (Va.) Salem linebacker Antonio Appleby surprised everyone, including Appleby himself. It took a visit last weekend to let him realize why he wanted to become a Cavalier.

“Basically they had everything I wanted in academics, athletics, the coaching staff, and the team,” says the 6-foot-4, 220 pounder. “They have the total package.”

Appleby, who many believe to be the total package as a football player, can play a multitude of positions.

“They recruited me for linebacker and tight end. I really did not want to play linebacker until I visited over the weekend. They showed me some film and showed me how I fit in perfectly for the scheme. After I saw that, I was sold.”

Appleby committed then decided to commit last night.

Ranked as the number nine player in Virginia, and the number 44 player in the Atlantic Region, Appleby I knew after the trip that Virginia was going to be one of his top schools, and he wanted to make sure he could have a spot on the team.
