Brandon Woods

Seems like all the talk south of the Virginia state line about Southern Durham coach Gordon Walters' Tar Heel ties and how that would influence his guys to go to Chapel Hill are in fact that, just talk. As today, UVa gained yet another commitment, this one from Brandon Woods.

Woods is a 6-2, 200 pound wide receiver prospect from Southern high school in Durham, NC. He is also teammates with UVa commitment, Maurice Covington. Although Woods is also highly rated as a defensive back, Virginia has recruited him as a wide receiver.

Woods committed today to coach Ryan Prince. "It was getting to be too much. I just love it up there," said Woods.

Woods even sounds like a Wahoo, "I just love that place. They have a good education, and I love the atmosphere."

Woods says that his decision came down between two schools, UVa and Nebraska.

"Nebraska was offering me the same thing as Virginia was, but its cold out there, and I would have to adapt to that. I just felt Virginia was in my region, much closer to home, and has better weather."

Woods says that playing time was a big factor for his decision. "It was very important that I might get to go in and start as a freshman." Woods also says that having Covington there will be a big help too. "Yea, we talked about being there together. I'm looking forward to it."

Woods was asked if he is going to try and sway his other teammates, most notably line backer Charles Gamble, to join Covington and himself.

"Yes sir, Charles is really interested in coming to Virginia."

Woods knows he has a lot of work to do this off-season and the up coming football season. "Coach Prince told me that speed is very important, so I'm working on my speed and strength." Woods will try to improve his 4.5 40 time.
