Thomas Hopple is now receiving ACC interest. The Suffolk (Va.) Nansemond River offensive tackle is receiving interest from North Carolina State, but on Saturday one ACC school pulled the trigger.
“I had a meeting with (Mike) London, the (UVa) head coach, and he said he wanted to offer me a full scholarship. Not just for my football abilities, but for my character,” said Hopple. “It was great. I was quite surprised.”
Hopple admits he needs to research the Wahoos a little bit, since he does not know a whole lot about the program, “I just know they are a good academic school.”
But he does have a way to learn more about UVa head coach Mike London and the Wahoos.
“My old head coach, Tracey Parker, that was his coach in college. So I asked him about him, and he said he was a great man and great coach.”
Virginia joins James Madison on Hopple’s offer list. The Cavaliers first showed their interest in the lineman back during the evaluation period.
“Mike Archer, their safeties coach and the recruiter for my area, came down to the school. Then I talked to the O-line coach (Scott Wachenheim), who said he wanted me to come out and talked to him. So I went up to UVa (on Saturday).”
During his visit, he had the chance to sit and talk with Wachenheim. The 2016 offensive lineman was impressed by the coach during the scrimmage and from their conversation. p>
“It seems like a great coach. Hopefully I can get a chance to work with him,” he said. “He said he needs good lineman with great character-someone who has great academics and is athletic. Just says he wants to get to know me and maybe play for him one day.”
Hopple hopes to return to Charlottesville for a game this fall. He is trying to return for UCLA.
