Faniel Picks Up Third Offer

Faniel Picks Up Third Offer

Alex Faniel has had a busy summer. The Richmond (Va.) St. Christopher's School 2017 quarterback’s recruitment has picked up steam and on Wednesday the signal-caller picked up his third offer. Faniel discussed the latest in his recruitment.

Alex Faniel’s recruitment is certainly full speed ahead. The 2017 signal caller from Richmond, Virginia, holds offers from Virginia Tech North Carolina State, and Virginia.

UVa was the last school to offer the St. Christopher’s school standout,. Faniel received the scholarship offer as he was driving home from the UVa camp with his father and friend, five-star 2015 linebacker Ricky DeBerry. According to Faniel, it was a moment that definitely stands out.

“At first (Mike) London called me Denzel, I’m assuming Denzel Washington and he called Ricky, Cedric the Entertainer,” Faniel laughed. “He told us to get on the bus and come down to Charlottesville. He is a funny guy… . It was nice to have a refreshing one like that. Everything else has been straight and business like. That was nice.”

Although impressed at London’s humor, Faniel really enjoyed learning from offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild at the camp

“He is definitely a great coach that I would love to play for,” said Faniel. “ He knows how to get a long with the kids. He has some great things to say about me. He had great feedback for me. Whenever I asked him a question, he would answer right on the spot. He also invited me back for a barbecue on the 16th. He is just a really good guy. I can definitely see myself playing for him.”

Although open to moving anywhere, there is always something special when an in-state school shows their trust.

“I think it is special getting an offer from an in-state school, because you grew up around here; you watch them play on TV. Not saying that any other is less special than this one, it is just a blessing. Especially to get one from UVa-they have great education and it isn’t far from home. My mom is a stickler for education-it has football and education wrapped into one.”

Faniel holds three offers, but that list looks to get bigger soon. He has competed in several camps this summer including: Penn State, Hawaii and Duke. The Nittany Lions are ones that definitely have the signal caller on their radar.

“Penn State was great. The campus was amazing. I got to talk with (PSU quarterback) Christian Hackenberg- he is a great guy.

“I also got to talk to a lot of the coaches. Coach (James) Franklin brings a lot of energy, he is an amazing coach. Coach (Bent) Pry, which is my recruiting coach for my area, he is also a great guy, he had a lot of great things to say to me. He answered a lot of stuff about recruiting.

“The campus is beautiful, the stadium holds 107,000 strong, the coaching staff is amazing. It seems like they are rebuilding at Happy Valley. They have a nice thing going on in Pennsylvania.”

With one camp left on the schedule, now it’s time to focus on the fall.

“I am going to North Carolina on Friday. After that I am focusing on the team and getting better along with the team.” Recommended Stories
