Hundreds of prospects flocked to Virginia on Saturday for UVa's annual 7-on-7 tournament and Big Man camp, including many Cavalier targets. Here are some takeaways from the event.
Virginia offered 2016 Lynchburg Christian Academy safety Tim Glass. Glass told Scout.com that "it feels great," to receive an offer from Mike London and his staff. He calls this offer a "big offer."Glass is no stranger to Virginia, he had visited UVa a few weeks back. Glass holds offers from UNC-Charlotte, East Carolina and North Carolina State. North Carolina is also showing interest and could offer in the next few days.
Virginia 2015 commit Gonzaga quarterback Nick Johns was busy once again trying to get more guys on board. Johns was working his teammate, wide receiver Jabari Greenwood very hard and will continue to do so tonight. Johns, Greenwood and Bishop McNamara cornerback Ashton White will remain in Charlottesville tonight. White will take an unofficial visit tomorrow.
The Bishop McNamara cornerback is spending the night at Virginia with Johns and Greenwood. Maryland, Ohio State, Boston College, Virginia and Notre Dame are in his top five. He said he loved the campus and is looking forward to talking with the coaches on Sunday during his unofficial visit.
Gonzaga WR Jabari Greenwood has been in contact with Virginia wide receivers coach Marques Hagans, and after Johns' commitment it seems the Wahoos are back in business with the wide out. "I was at the beach, but I came down here just to come to see the coaches here…I definitely want to give UVa a shot." He is also considering Kentucky, Michigan State, Maryland, North Carolina State Illinois and Rutgers. Rutgers and Michigan State are the two schools he hopes to visit this summer.
St. John's College wide receiver Scott Washington likes the school and the academics. Nick Johns' commitment has also impacted him. He says Boston College is recruiting him the hardest, and he says Penn State is close to offering.
Washington (D.C.) St. John's College tight end Devante Brooks had a great day at the camp. The 2016 prospect does not hold an offer from Virginia right now, but I would be surprised if they don't offer soon. Brooks says he plans to visit Tennessee and Maryland. UVa coaches Steve Fairchild and tom O'Brien was looking closely at Brooks.
UVa defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta and UVa assistant Chip West were also looking at in-state 2015 DB from Richmond (Va.) Hermitage Rashad Robinson. They have not offered, but the worked him out separately.
Tim Glass earned the offer today. It was a matter of when not if Virginia offered, and although Glass is still learning LCA's defense he still looked great and grabbed 2 picks when I was watching.
A lot of great wide receivers today. 2015 St. John's College wide receiver Scott Washington looked great today, but the day has to go to David Eldridge. UVa wide receiver's coach Marques Hagans was obviously very happy and beaming after seeing the wide out catch touchdown after touchdown.
When Ashton White played LCA he had three pass breakups, he was a monster all day.
Make sure to keep it here at HooNation where I will have more coverage from the camp as I post full interviews from a few of UVa's key targets.
