"No I didn't expect it," said the Buford offensive lineman. "I hadn't gotten any mail or anything from them so it was kind of a surprise."
Virginia joins the field which includes Georgia Tech, Duke, Cincinnati and Arkansas-with Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia showing interest in the 2015 standout. Although his newest offer, Polino is well aware of UVa's reputation in the classroom.
"I know they have a really good academics, and I also heard the campus is beautiful," said Polino. "(UVa cornerback) C. J. Moore he goes there, he is an alumni of Buford and he has nothing but good things to say."
The talented lineman is now looking forward to making a trip up to Charlottesville.
"I talked to my parents about it and we are trying to visit if we can. It will probably close to summer time or maybe late in the spring."
The Yellow Jackets do hold some early momentum when it comes to his recruitment. Georgia Tech was his first offer and the 6-foot-4, 277 pounder has made several trips to Atlanta.
"Since Tech was first to take that step and offer me it will keep them in the picture…Offering me a scholarship first does mean a lot to me. It just showed me something and I know how Tech feels about me."
Polino has visited Georgia Tech, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia Tech during the fall, and has already made spring visits to see Georgia Tech, Auburn, Duke and N.C. State. During every visit, Polino is trying to find a well-rounded program.
"I'm really high on academics, so I want to go to a school that has great academics," he explained. "I am looking for a balance between good football and good academics. That's why I am staying open to the whole process right now."
