Coaching Changes Commence

Anthony Poindexter

Virginia assistants Anthony Poindexter and Vincent Brown are headed to the University of Connecticut to join Bob Diaco's staff.

Virginia football coaches Anthony Poindexter and Vincent Brown are joining Bob Diaco's staff at the University of Connecticut. The news about both coaches leaving Virginia came on Friday evening.

"Thanks for the amazing young men I met during my time at UVA," tweeted Brown. "Made lifelong friends over the last four years. Excited about the future."

The former All-Pro New England Patriots linebacker came to Virginia in 2007 as a graduate assistant, and then returned as a defensive assistant in 2010.

And for the first time in a decade Poindexter will not be on a UVa coaching staff. Shortly after, it was confirmed that Poindexter will join Brown in the Northeast as the defensive coordinator. He joined the Cavaliers on the staff after a standout career as a safety for the Cavs from 1994-98.

Diaco, who is in his first-year as the UConn head coach, also coached at UVa previously. He was in charge of UVa linebackers and defensive backs under Al Groh. His staff also includes another Cavalier name, former Virginia quarterback Wayne Lineburg.

Poindexter was in charge of recruiting Northern Virginia and Maryland primarily, while Brown recruited Georgia, Florida and some of the tidewater area.

As of right now, the 2014 class should stay intact, however, with Poindexter in charge of recruiting the likes of Tim Settle, Matthew Burrell etc, it will be interesting to see how it will affect the Maryland recruiting scene. Recommended Stories
