Since the summer, Chad Mitchell
was eager to get back on Grounds. The 2015 offensive lineman made his return to Charlottesville on Saturday to see Virginia
take on Duke
"We took a tour on Friday morning and Saturday woke up and went straight to the game," said the Montgomery Bell Academy standout.
Mitchell already turned heads in his last visit to UVa during a Mike London football camp, where he didn't leave with an offer, but he did leave with a new relationship with the coaching staff.
"(Scott) Wachenheim and I have a great relationship," said Mitchell of the Virginia assistant. "I did get to talk to coach Wachenheim, but I didn't get to talk to Coach London for very long. But I think it went very well with the coaches.
"I saw him (Wachenheim on the way to the facilities, and we talked a little outside, about the season and everything."
The Cavaliers are not having a season to remember. UVa is now in a four-game slump, but Mitchell says he isn't swayed away by Saturday's loss to Duke.
"I do see the team try to build," he explained. "There is nothing they can't fix. It is just between the team for that...I will be sending Coach Wachenheim a highlight tape, and I am definitely looking for an offer."
If and when the Cavaliers do offer, the staff will have to fight off other suitors that are trying to get into the mix.
"I am very familiar with Coach (Herb) Hand in Vanderbilt
; I have talked to him many times. Coach (Jeff) Grimes with Auburn
, I am familiar with as well. I've also stayed in contact with him on twitter and facebook. I also talked to Tennessee
The Tennessee native will also be busy for the rest of the fall. Mitchell planning visits to Vanderbilt, Auburn (against Mississippi State
"No real favorites, I am still keeping my options open."
As Mitchell begins to narrow down his search, there are a few things he is looking for.
"Academics are definitely my number one priority. I am looking to major in pre-law and I know Virginia has a really good program. Coaching wise, a coach that I have a good relationship with as a friend, but then there is a time to be serious and there is a time to have fun. I want a coach that will push me really hard and will try to make me better."
For right now however, Mitchell will try to push forward with his team as they make a playoff push as one of the best teams in the division.
