Sheedy Attracting Interest
"Last year really helped us see what was out there," said Crusader two-way lineman Keegan Sheedy. "This year we can really prepare better as a team; and we know, even though we are a smaller school, we can fight with the best of them."
Sheedy is also proving he can fight with the best of them. The 2015 prospect is already attracting some attention from the likes of Penn State, Virginia, Northwestern and Pittsburgh-with the Nittany Lions contacting the Crusader junior after September 1st.
"I was just recently at a game there to see Penn State play against Kent State. It was a lot of fun; great atmosphere," he said. "And basically right now we are just writing emails back and forth."
With a visit to State College in the rearview mirror, Sheedy is concentrating on his next trip, Virginia. The standout will visit this Saturday when the Cavs host Ball State.
The 6-foot-4, 260 pounder is no stranger to the Cavaliers. Sheedy camped with the 'Hoos over the summer, where he had the chance to meet and talk with offensive line coach Scott Wachenheim.
"It was a beautiful area, beautiful training area. And I really liked how the coaches coached. They didn't really yell at you, but they told you what you could do better in the next rep. And it was a good atmosphere. "
Charlottesville will not be his only stop this fall. Sheedy plans to make trips to both Evanston and Pittsburgh. Northwestern is one program the Lancaster Catholic standout is familiar with. Former Catholic offensive lineman Adam DePietro is currently a red-shirt freshman for the Wildcats. Northwestern certainly impressed Sheedy out of the gates.
"I went up there for a camp in the summer. It was a great area and I liked the coaching staff. I could see myself there," he explained. "They seemed to really know what they are doing. They really gave me some good tips as a camper not just a recruit- how to get better, and what they are looking to see."
As with many recruits looking to make a college choice, Sheedy is looking at early playing time. The 2015 points to the Panthers as a possible avenue to pursue.
"The thing that really jumps out for me about Pitt is how many freshmen they are playing, and how successful they are. But really it shows me the coaching staff is doing a great job converting players to play at the next level."
Sheedy looks to play offensive tackle in college, but is looking for balance when it comes to a college program.
" I am really looking for a school that has a great combination of academics and athletics."
Sheedy and the Crusaders will look to remain perfect in section play on Friday against Warwick at 7 p.m..
