Butts Excited at Virginia Future

Evan Butts

Episcopal Academy (Merion, Pa.) three-star tight end Evan Butts returns to UVa for the first time since his commitment. Butts talks about the Cavaliers and the increased role of the tight ends.

Months after Evan Butts had to work hard in front of Virginia coaches for an offer, the Episcopal Academy tight end made his way back to Charlottesville.

"It felt really good," he said. "Coming back is always great-seeing the coaches; being on campus; seeing the players, I really do like coming back to UVa."

The Cavalier commit returned to Scott Stadium two weeks ago, when the ‘Hoos welcomed Oregon.

"It was a tough game, Oregon was just really good. Kind of got away from them in the second half, but I thought the defense did well...But I did notice how many times the offense targeted the tight ends. It was fun to see."

Although the three-star tight end was able to watch the game, the main thing he was able to take away from his trip was his new bonds with current and future Cavaliers.

"I got to see Jake (McGee) and Zach (Swanson) after the game.. I had a lot of fun down there, especially seeing all the other commits there. I hung out with Jordan (J.J. Jackson). I met him for the first time. I like him; he is a really great kid. I also met with Will Richardson, who is also a really nice kid."

It was not just pledges, however, that Butts is keeping his eye on.

I spent a lot of time with Chance Hall, talking to him. I know he has a UVa offer. I spent a lot of time with him, and I don't speak for him, but I think he is feeling good about UVa. I'm sure he is going to check out other places. But I am definitely trying to do my part with guys from my class and other classes. I have tried to reach out to offensive lineman in Pittsburgh, Alex Bookser as well. Just trying to do my part; anything I can do to help this program do really well in the future."

Right now Butts is focused on making sure he does everything he can do for his high school squad. Butts currently has just over 200 yards receiving, a touchdown, two sacks and has registered a few tackles.
