Commitment Watch: Isaiah Wilkins

Isaiah Wilkins

Greater Atlanta Christian (Norcross, Ga.) three star forward Isaiah Wilkins will be on Grounds this weekend for an official visit. Is this the weekend he decides to pull the trigger and commit? HooNation talks to Wilkins about the Cavaliers.

Isaiah Wilkins will be on Grounds for his official visit on Friday. The three star forward will be joined on the trip by his grandfather and mother for his first ever visit to Charlottesville. Can this first visit to Virginia end with a commitment?

"If I love it I don't see why not," said Wilkins.

Wilkins' connection with the Cavaliers started two years ago.

"Coach Sanchez came down two years ago to our school to watch me, and ever since then I've been talking to him. July he came down for a few of the games I played. Then since we've been talking on a daily basis."

Although Wilkins only started talking to Coach Tony Bennett at the end of July, he already feels like he knows the Cavaliers head coach.

"I feel like Coach Bennett cares about basketball, but he cares about players growing as people and with God. He actually takes the time to get to know the players he recruits to make sure that they fit his system.

"From talking to coach Bennett I feel like I would fit. It is going to be good to see the players work out and talk to them more about that.

"We come up Friday morning. I can't wait! Tomorrow's (Thursday's) school day is probably going to go very, very slow," he laughed.

"I am excited about seeing the campus, meeting the coaches and being around the players. Malcolm (Brogdon) came from our school, so I know him pretty well."

Brogdon adds to a familiarity for the 6-foot-8, 200 pound standout, but it is what he would gain away from the hardwood that has him intrigued and excited.

"I like the academics. The academics side is great. My mom is real big on academics, she is a school teacher. I am big on academics that is why I keep my grades up... It is good people. You can tell the coaches care about you, not just for basketball but as a person. I just can't wait to see it, see the atmosphere. I hear it's amazing!"

Wilkins says he does have an official visit set up with Miami next weekend, but that doesn't mean a decision won't come this weekend.

"f I find the school I like; I will probably end up committing."
