Coach Speak: Jordan Ellis

Jordan Ellis

Peachtree Ridge High (Suwanee, Ga.) running back Jordan Ellis committed to Virginia one week ago, and HooNation talked to the Lions' head coach Mark Fleetwood to find out more about UVa's latest commit.

"I am so excited for them- Jordan (Ellis) and Virginia," said Peachtree Ridge High's head coach, Mark Fleetwood. "He is very worthy of this, it is a win-win for both parties."

Fleetwood was all praise this week for his running back, Jordan Ellis, days after the Lions' standout decided to commit to UVa.

"I just thought, wow isn't that awesome," Fleetwood said. " I thought it was on the horizon; I did't know he was going to do it that early, but I am not surprised. He put some thought into it - he studied and researched. He felt good with my experience at the college level, and I told him that it was a good offer."

"All the hard work and effort he put into this...it all comes to fruition."

Ellis rushed for 294 yards on 49 carries, averaging 6 yards per carry for his squad last season. Fleetwood says he was definitely the workhouse of the team.

"No question about it. He is great! in the classroom, on the football field, in the weight room - it doesn't matter where you are.

"Going into his junior season, he was about 180 pounds and a year later he is about 213," he explained. "So he has gained some weight, and he has put it in the right way. He put it in the upper body. He is really strong, big forearm, big chest, catches the ball extremely well in the backfield."

So what type of running back are the Cavaliers getting?

"He is a really hard worker, he has a lot of natural ability running the football. He is a durable, tough kid, and he runs extremely hard. He will run over you, or he will go around you; he can do both. He just made a lot of things happen."

Like many UVa recruits his stats reach over far from the gridiron.

"Jordan is a guy that succeeds in the classroom, he carries a 3.3, 3.4, grade point average.. and he does well. He doesn't think lightly of the academic portion."

"They couldn't have picked a better guy. Jordan fits their academic and athletic deal. He will be a good running back for them no question about it."
